About THE INITIATIVE
Empowering the Next Generation of Engineers & Techies in Kenya
This initiative is part of IEEE CIS Kenya’s mission to foster early engagement in computational intelligence. It is designed to introduce high school students (ages 12–18) and their teachers to fundamental concepts of Computational Intelligence (CI) through interactive workshops and mentorship. The program provides hands-on exposure to neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computation, design thinking, IoT, virtual reality, and AI.
Mission
To inspire and empower young learners in Kenya by introducing Artificial & Computational Intelligence at the K-12 level through hands-on learning, mentorship, and inclusive outreach programs.
Vision
To build a future generation of innovators and problem-solvers equipped with computational intelligence skills to drive Kenya’s technological growth and global competitiveness.
Program Outline
Introduction to Computational Intelligence
Overview of computational intelligence and its applications, and an outlook on career opportunities in AI, machine learning, and computational intelligence.
Introduction to Fundamental Pillars of CI
Introduction to basics of AI and how machines learn (neural networks), handling uncertainty in real-world applications (fuzzy systems), and how biological evolution inspires AI solutions (evolutionary computation).
Interactive Workshops
Design Thinking Workshop – ideate and come up with solutions to local problems using AI
IoT Workshop – basic hands-on embedded systems prototyping session
Virtual Reality & AI Workshop – simutation of real-world AI applications using VR Kits
