2025 IEEE Kenya Section Executive Committee Elections

The voting membership of IEEE Kenya Section every two years elects officers that serve on the Executive Committee. The candidates comprise of members who have been nominated either by the voting members for that position or by petition.

In accordance with IEEE Bylaw I-307 Nominations and Elections, individual voting members may propose, by petition, names to be added to the ballot for the offices that appear on the IEEE Kenya Section election ballot.

We are currently seeking dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers for the following 6 positions on the 2026-2027 Executive Committee of the Kenya Section.
Chair Vice Chair (Chair-Elect)

  • Secretary Vice Secretary (Secretary-Elect)
  • Treasurer Vice Treasurer (Treasurer-Elect)

     

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

  1.     Section Chair: 
  • General supervision of the Section in all its activities,
  • Chair all meetings of the Section and the Section ExCom
  • Represent Section in all meetings, Region 8, Section Congress, or otherwise related to Section activities.
  • Present appointments of Committee Chairs to the Section ExCom.
  • Review the Section Budget before submitting to Section ExCom.
  1. Vice-Chair:
  • Assist the Chair in the coordination of all Section activities.
  • At the request of the Section Chair or in the absence of the Section Chair, shall chair meetings of the Section, Section Committee, or Section ExCom.
  • Any such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the ExCom.
  1. Secretary: 
  • Record keeping, correspondence and mailing notices.
  • Keeping of the minutes of the committee meetings.
  • Submission of meeting and officer reports to MGA at the end of each year.
  • Any such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the ExCom.
  1. Vice-Secretary 
  • Assume the duties of the Secretary during absence of the latter.
  • Any such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the ExCom.
  1. Treasurer 
  • Development of a Section budget for approval by the Section,
  • Keeping financial records and accounting of all Section funds,
  • Submitting annual financial reports of the Section to the Section members and IEEE HQ
  • Under direction from the ExCom disburse the Section funds and keep a regular account.
  1. Vice-Treasurer
  • Assume the duties of the Treasurer during absence of the latter.
  • Any such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the ExCom.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Ideal Candidates should have the following qualifications.

  1. Chair
  • At least 6 years continuous IEEE membership
  • Must Be a Professional Member or higher. Senior Membership will be an Added Advantage
  • Participation at the highest level at Society Section Chapter and/or Section in Kenya for at least 5 years
  • Evidence of substantial contribution to IEEE Kenya activities
  • Evidence of accomplishment in previous position(s) held in his/her career and professional body (ies)
  • Previous Volunteer Experience, for example: [Society Chapter Chair/ViceChair; Section Committee/Affinity Group Chair; MGA/Region 8 Subcommittee Volunteer; Past Section Official (Secretary/Treasurer)]
  1. Vice-Chair
  • At least 5 years continuous IEEE membership
  • Must Be a Professional Member or higher. Senior Membership will be an Added Advantage
  • Participation at the highest level at Society Section Chapter and/or Section in Kenya for at least 4 years
  • Evidence of substantial contribution to IEEE Kenya activities
  • Evidence of accomplishment in previous position(s) held in his/her career and professional body (ies)
  • Previous Volunteer Experience, for example: [Society Chapter Chair/ViceChair; Section Committee/Affinity Group Chair; MGA/Region 8 Subcommittee Volunteer; Past Section Official (Secretary/Treasurer)]
  1. Secretary
  • At least 4 years continuous IEEE membership
  • Must Be a Professional Member or higher. Senior Membership will be an Added Advantage
  • Participation at the highest level at Society Section Chapter and/or Section in Kenya for at least 3 years
  • Evidence of substantial contribution to IEEE Kenya activities
  • Evidence of accomplishment in previous position(s) held in his/her career and professional body (ies)
  • Previous Volunteer Experience, for example: [Society Chapter Official; Section Committee/Affinity Group Official; MGA/Region 8 Subcommittee Volunteer]
  1. Treasurer
  • At least 4 years continuous IEEE membership
  • Must Be a Professional Member or higher. Senior Membership will be an Added Advantage
  • Participation at the highest level at Society Section Chapter and/or Section in Kenya for at least 3 years
  • Evidence of substantial contribution to IEEE Kenya activities
  • Evidence of accomplishment in previous position(s) held in his/her career and professional body (ies)
  • Previous Volunteer Experience, for example: [Society Chapter Official; Section Committee/Affinity Group Official; MGA/Region 8 Subcommittee Volunteer]
  1. Vice Treasurer / Vice Secretary 
  • At least 3 years continuous IEEE membership
  • Participation at the highest level at Society Section Chapter and/or Section in Kenya for at least 2 years
  • Evidence of substantial contribution to IEEE Kenya activities
  • Evidence of accomplishment in previous position(s) held in his/her career and professional body (ies)
  • Previous Volunteer Experience, for example: [Society Section Chapter Official, Student Branch Official (Secretary, Treasurer, Chair), Kenya Section Committee Volunteer (e.g. Industry, Publicity, etc.), Society Chapter Official (Secretary, Treasurer, Chair)]

The positions will be for a 2-year term from 01 Jan 2026 to 31 Dec 2027.

Outgoing officers will continue until their successors are duly elected and take office. 

NOMINATIONS

  1. Nominees must reside in Kenya, hold active 2025 IEEE membership, as of 5th September ’25, keep active membership in good standing during the service term, & be of Graduate Student Member, Member, Senior Member, Life Member, or Fellow grade.
  2. Undergraduate students and associate members are not eligible to apply.
  3. Each nominee will need to present a biography with photo, a position statement and IEEE Accomplishments and Activities.
  4. Any application not supported with a Biography and Position Statement will not be considered.
  5. If nominating another member we request you first seek their consent and confirmation of willingness to run for election.
  6. Nominees, upon accepting their nomination, will then be added to the ballot
  7. Nomination and Voting will be held electronically utilizing vTools.

HOW TO NOMINATE SELF/SOMEONE

  1. Login to vTools Nominations Portal using your IEEE credentials to nominate yourself or another member.
  2. Prepare a brief Biography, without IEEE activities. Insert a passport photo  (100-150 words)
  3. Prepare a Position Statement i.e. to explain the personal view on the position and intended approach to working in the position and how it will benefit the members (100-150 words).
  4. Prepare a summary of IEEE Accomplishments and Activities (100-150 words). GENERAL
