Biography

Lalai Samuel Ntongai is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer registered under the  Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), and the  Institute of Engineering Technologists and Technicians (IET). He is also a Graduate Student  Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 

He currently serves as a Senior Technologist at the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and  Technology (Kenya-AIST) in Konza City, Kenya, a position he has held since January 2025.  Previously, he served as a Technician in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Meru  University of Science and Technology from 2015 to 2024. His industrial experience includes  roles at East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) and Kenya Power and Lighting  Company (KPLC). 

Engineer Lalai holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Meru University of Science  and Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2017–2022)  from Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science  in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Microelectronics Option) at Dedan Kimathi  University of Technology (DeKUT).

IEEE Activities 

Lalai Samuel Ntongai serves as Advisor to the IEEE Meru Student Branch, where he  provides leadership in branch societies, student development, and mentorship. He actively  mentors students across all levels in research, automation, coding, and robotics. His ongoing  research focuses on IoT, climate technology, automation, robotics, AI applications, and  microelectronics design.

Position Statement – Candidate for Vice Secretary, IEEE Kenya Section 

Vision for IEEE Kenya Section 

As Vice Secretary, I will work collaboratively with Section leadership to strengthen IEEE’s  impact across Kenya through the following vision pillars: 

  • Strengthening student branches and Young Professional chapters across all regions. Expanding strong partnerships with industry, government, and research institutions. Enhancing member value through training, certifications, networking, and visibility. 
  • Promoting mentorship, especially for students, early-career engineers, and women in  engineering. 
  • Empowering volunteers through clear support systems, recognition, and leadership  development. 
  • Supporting technical events, innovation forums, and emerging technology programs  across universities and the professional community. 

Action Plan 

If elected, I will: 

  • Support the Section in maintaining accurate documentation, minutes, and  communication for effective governance. 
  • Facilitate structured coordination between chapters, affinity groups, and student  branches. 
  • Enhance digital communication channels to improve member engagement and reach. Participate actively in organizing conferences, workshops, and public technical  activities. 
  • Strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and innovation hubs through  IEEE programs. 
  • Help grow membership through outreach, mentorship, and value-driven programs.

If entrusted with the role of Vice Secretary, I will serve with integrity, professionalism, and  dedication. I am committed to strengthening IEEE Kenya Section’s visibility, supporting  volunteers, empowering students, and advancing technology for humanity across all regions  of Kenya.
