Biography

Cynthia Mkabane is the treasurer of Power and Energy Society, Kenya Section. She is also a member of the Young Professional society, Women in Engineering etc. where she has volunteered in various roles that contribute to the growth of the section. She has been involved in the AFRICON conference planning, KSYP and IMAS. She has also been a mentor to new students from Strathmore University and Jomo Kenyatta University on the importance of being an IEEE member and some of the membership benefits for each level and how to engage. She is also a member of the Finance Committee Kenya Section where she assists the current treasurer in supporting members with funding and fine-tuning IEEE processes to allow for timely fund transfers and accounting.

Action Plan

  • Strengthening financial transparency by providing timely reports to the relevant members and maintaining open budget decisions and resource allocation
  • Ensure funds are aligned with high-impact activities such as professional development, technical events, and student engagement. In this regard, I would provide periodic reviews in conjunction with the finance committee to optimize expenditures and reduce unnecessary costs.
  • Encourage fundraising and sponsorship partnerships to expand resources.
  • Allocate resources to programs that directly benefit members, i.e., training, networking and innovation activities.
  • Ensure adherence to IEEE policies, financial procedures and audit requirements while upholding ethical financial management and accountability at all levels.
